Overview & Reviews
After undergoing a full redesign last year, Chevrolet's heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck gets few changes for 2002. Air conditioning is now standard on all trim levels along with extendable sunshade visors and improved base model radios.
- Class-leading engines and hauling capacity, roomy interior, superior brakes.
- Spotty build quality, cheap interior materials.

Ole Faithful - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Webe - March 10 - 10:06 pmI bought the truck new as it came off the transport truck, seriously. This truck has done anything I have asked of it and is still going strong. Other than normal maintenance, I have had it in the shop for a fused transmission sensor. That is it. Averaging 17 mpg in town, 25 on the highway, and 17 when pulling 13000 camper I cannot complain about that at all. With a truck this size, that is great. I see me running this truck probably til I die. It is that good a truck.

2500HD LT 4WD Crew LB 6.0L - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Todd - February 14 - 5:23 pmGreat truck with reasonable fuel economy given the size and extensive capabilities. Large 4-wheel disc brakes operate smoothly. Average of 13MPG in mixed driving. Able to handle off-road and deep snow with ease (after upgrading tires to 265/75-16 BFG All-Terrain T/A KOs), and still cruise on the Interstate smoothly and quietly. Crew cab great for getting small children in and out of carseats, and rear vents are a nice addition, as well as the heated/power leather front seats. The 6.0 V-8 is smooth and powerful. Fold down rear seats are a nice addition for interior hauling space. The slight styling differences of the HD nicely set it apart from its light duty counterparts. Great Truck!

Top-o-the-Line - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By True Believer - January 29 - 2:00 amMan oh man what a truck. This pickup has surpassed everythin that I have wanted in a truck. It has the looks, the power, and payload that anyone could ever want. To me there is not another choice.

Best Truck Ever! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By pss1175 - December 28 - 4:23 amI bought this vehicle new and it has been great. I have definitely used it as a HD truck. Towed a 15,000lbs. trailer all over the midwest and had no problems. Payload is excellent, I have had 4000 lbs in the bed. This truck has been off road as much as on road. It just keeps asking for more. Fuel mileage is 10 and 13, no complaints though it is a big truck and I did not buy it for the mileage. I bought it to work and it does. Only mechanical problem was a fan clutch at 75,000. I will be keeping this truck for a long time. Nice job GM.

Good truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By pete - November 16 - 2:26 pmMy 02 Duramax has been excelent to me. It is desined to pull around 10,000 lbs with a hitch, but I have pulled 15,000 lbs with no problem. My 18 goose neck is even easier to pull even when it is full of trash about the same weight. I love it.

Comfortable Pickup - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Montana Farmer - October 16 - 7:43 pmThe most comfortabvle vehicle I ever drove. We bought it because it was shorter overall and closer to the ground than its competitors. We use it for everything and it has been good. We had injector problems at 108,000, but they were paid by recall/extended warranty. Replaced front ball joints twice in 90,000 miles.

Well worth the wait - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By gdsbls - May 7 - 10:00 amMy husband and I purchased the crew cab, LT, diesel this weekend. We love it. For about the same amount of money and with all of the options on this truck - Ford could not begin to compete. Towing was no problem - the ride was just as comfortable with or without equipment attached.

Beware GM Gas Engines! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By 501 - January 13 - 10:00 amAt 10k miles my truck started knocking. Now at 25k it knocks all the time. Complained to dealer and GM, they extended engine warranty to 5 years/100k miles. What good is a truck that cost $30k that I have to get rid of in 5 years if it doesnt blow before hand? This is from a 40 year GM loyalist and shareholder. Search "piston slap" on the internet for all the sorry details.

Great truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Ollie - October 27 - 2:30 pmI bought his truck 7 months ago with only 32,000 miles on it. I love it! It runs great, and the cab is the biggest out there. It is also a very comfortable ride. The gas mileage isnt so great though. Overall a great truck.
